Mason Webb - Still Water

Mason Webb - Still Water

A Short Q&A with Mason Webb

The creative process:

"When approaching a new work of art I carry certain principles within my process of land surveying, topographies, geological importance, comedic perspectives, and distorting sentiment and memory of those places."

What inspired Still Water (2024) that is exhibiting at Chelsea Walls:

"Still Water is part of an ongoing series of mapping water levels of canal systems. This particular canal system is based off the Gulf of Mexico during recent hurricanes. Erosion and sediment take place through an illustrative process of mark making analyzing topographies and water levels."

Particular themes or concepts:

"Architecture, Sediments of Nature. Nostalgia and Memory, multi sensory design or Gesamtkunstwerk."

Future projects:

"I’m developing a new collaboration painting series with a songwriter in Los Angeles named Gwaimak. Works are based around Gesamtkunstwek and Temperature."

Mason Webb's Still Water (2023) is now on view on 231 10th Ave

"Still Water is based around growing up in both Desert and Coastal Cities such as Carefree Arizona and Mobile, AL which both show significant signs of erosion or sediment. These levels of water are reflected in the mark making process’s and illustrative topographical regions show in laser etched steel."
